We all know the holidays get hectic and we end up running around like chickens with our heads cut off. Let’s change that this year. Yes, the holidays are busy with parties, kids are out of school, and that’s on top of your already busy life, but with a few of the right remedies, you can have a stress free holiday.
It is important to keep in mind the “reason for the season.” A gentle reminder each day reinforcing the happiness that is meant to illuminate the holidays will keep you in a better mood. Write a simple post-it note and put in on your mirror so you see it every morning. Smile at your sales clerk at the grocery store – we’re all in the same boat here. A little happiness in someone’s day will go a long way. It may sound corny, but you’d be surprised how much it can change your attitude.
Many of us fear saying “no.” But don’t be afraid to do so. If you’re getting invited to too many holiday parties that you can’t keep straight what’s what, then feel free to start marking no on those RSVPs. We can’t be in more than one place at once. And that’s okay.
Don’t stress over buying someone the most expensive gift. Instead find the most thoughtful gift. A gift that really screams their personality. Gifts that really mean something are always much more appreciated than the gift that everyone else is giving. Down the road, people aren’t going to remember how much money you spent on them, but they will remember the things you laughed about and the stories you shared.
Commit to being fully present with your family. Watch your kids’ faces light up with wonder and excitement this season. Dwell in the magic of the holiday with them as you bake cookies, watch Christmas movies and decorate the tree. Burn the images into your head – create beautiful memories with your family and hold onto them.
For an added holiday bonus, add some candles and bubble bath scents to your Christmas list. When all the holiday madness is over, take a bath and reflect on all your hard work.
